Developing an aspirational and effective culture within a business is necessary for many leaders in pursuit of success. For some, this culture is focused on communication and putting out impactful messaging to all those involved. In doing this, a leader hopes to have everyone on the same page to better work for a common goal, and ultimately a collective success. However, simple culture defining statements and daily inspirational quotes only go so far. To ensure effective results, taking the extra steps to establish action can be hugely beneficial in most situations.
It is important to first reevaluate or redefine your purpose statement regarding company culture. Once you have clear, attainable aspirations in this regard, you can then focus on turning these broader statements into actionable steps. The key to clarifying action is in simplicity. To achieve this, break up every possible element of your purpose statements and transcribe them into multiple short, clear actions. Sometimes these actions can be delegated across your group of people or taken one by one personally. Either way, seeing all these actions in full will best help you convert ideas into action.
Oftentimes, a significant part of acting comes in the form of something that may typically be seen as inaction: listening. Listening is perhaps the most essential part of this process because it allows you to both ingest and best utilize beneficial information. Some people make the mistake by spending too much time on personal statements and do not take the time to reflect and take advantage of the inputs from others. With enough listening and communal discourse, when the time for action comes, preparation will be at an all-time high.
“Talk” by itself is not a bad thing, in fact it is quite necessary in forming a foundation for action. However, understanding it is only a small piece of the process of change and innovation is essential. Dissecting one’s talk through actionable steps and collective criticisms can best ensure positive, productive action in your business.
